Goals
WP6 develops a multi-wave and multi-country panel survey set up to study political representation and decision-making problems in Europe exploring elite-public opinion interactions.
Achievements
Between June and July 2016, UNISI together with Kantar Public launched the first wave of a survey targeting EU citizens and business people in ten countries (Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom). The survey focused on three policy areas – security, economy and immigration – and it collected opinions about the preferred policy solutions and feelings of solidarity across EU countries to address the most urgent crises. The survey also included some population-based experiments that explored the determinants of solidarity in the fields of security, immigration and the economy within the European Union. Our fieldwork took place in unprecedented circumstances straddling the vote on the Brexit referendum, for this reason half of the sample received some specific questions assessing the impact of such momentous event for the future of the EU.The survey has been conducted through a Computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) system and involved about 27 thousands respondents.
Between June and October 2017 we carried out the second wave of the panel survey with some new questions.
Ongoing activities
The research team at UNISI is currently leading the analyses on the results of the two waves of the EUENGAGE mass and business people survey. Several papers using the data of the survey have been presented in conferences and public events, and submitted to leading journals in political science.
